The milk carton is an easy and practical way to keep and pour rice when needed. The images around the carton are illustrations by Connor Young and Erin Ho in 5F and show how they learned to grow rice at ASIJ. The description of the Rice Service process was written by Neil Wang in 5F.

The Rice package designed by Quinn Yamanaka and Lauren Summerhill is in the shape of a bag because we thought it would be a fun and unique way to package the rice. We made our design with the thought of the traditional rice bag packaging used in the countryside of Japan. We collaborated with the 5th graders in 5V to create this beautiful packaging. Rin Nakamura and Kailah Cornute created the illustrations, and Elena Silecchia wrote the Rice Service story.

Package design and layout by Ryan Haddad, drawings by Xavier Wan and Neela Padgett, and writing by Kaname Hashimoto in 5M. This Chinese takeout box-inspired container has both an aesthetic, purpose, and practical purpose. Xavier’s drawing of a hoe cutting rice was transformed into a pattern for the background on multiple sides.

This simple box, by Leo Volkov, is designed to package the most rice with the least amount of materials used. The box opens from the top for easy use and reclosure. The watercolor texture and yellow of the box are based on the color of the sun to soothe the eye. The illustrations and story were done by Ailee Condon, Sawa Yamamoto, and Haruya Sobajima in 5R.

Matchbox-inspired design by Mia Burkheimer. I placed two illustrations on one sheet of paper to limit the amount of paper needed. The color scheme, illustrations, and writing were done by Risako Harada, Leo Golden, and Lamiah Belkheir in 5C. We worked hard to design and create this gift package that tells the story of the ASIJ Rice Service Project.

Our handbag design makes the rice easy to carry and also looks a bit like a briefcase. This gives the package a sense of hope for those in need. The green paper represents our time in the rice paddy working on all stages of the rice harvest: preparing the soil, planting, caring for, and harvesting the rice. Illustrations were done by Parker Feldman & Kendrick Bredeman and the Rice Service story was written by Anna Edo in 5J.

The Forest Green, a simple yet practical box designed for maximum accessibility, proves that simple is better than complex. The package can contain a bag of rice with ease. The simplistic opening of the box makes it accessible to open and close. The Forest Green and the ASIJ mustang yellow created an aesthetically pleasing color harmony. The illustrations and story were done by Ailee Condon, Sawa Yamamoto, and Haruya Sobajima in 5R
